RSA Conference 2018: The View from Booth 2240
The CyberVista team is in San Francisco for the RSA Conference 2018 this week. This annual pilgrimage lands us among over 45,000 of the brightest professionals in the InfoSec community and provides us with an opportunity to gain new insights into the needs of our current and future students. Below are a few highlights from our booth conversations over the last couple of days.
Career Advancement
We often talk about the power of certifications when you’re looking for a new job or even looking to move up within your current organization. One attendee, Sarah, shared her inspiring story with us. Over 16 years ago, Sarah decided to pursue her CISSP and despite her colleagues’ doubt that she would pass, Sarah earned her CISSP certification. She now sits as the CIO of a major organization and is looking to invest in certification training for her entire team.
Training for Every Level
How many times have we heard that cyber risk is an enterprise risk, but see that the reaches of training stops at a certain leadership level? We are seeing an encouraging shift in that mentality! We spoke with several organizations taking serious actions to educate their board and executive leadership teams. We’re excited to be part of this transition in both perspective and empowerment.
Digging a Little Deeper
Not every RSAC attendee needs training. There are hundreds of fantastic software and hardware solutions, along with excellent managed services or consulting that might better suit the needs of folks walking the exhibit hall. That said, sometimes a conversation at the booth uncovers problems that attendees are experiencing that could be solved by comprehensive training solutions. That was the case in a conversation we had Wednesday morning. Focused on software, this organization has inadvertently neglected investing in training for its practitioners. We’re excited to work this organization to provide them with the resources they need to improve their security posture through their full-time employees.
Security First
We’ve been hearing “security first” monikers for years. The reality up until now is that in a fast-paced and competitive environment like startups or high-tech firms security has been an after-thought. Yet, this year, we’re hearing more and more that organizations are taking the security seriously from day one. At our booth, we had no fewer than ten sets of attendees ask about training for secure code development. These requests suggest that organizations have finally bought in. Investing in secure code development now means a lower-risk and more effective solution in the future. We’re also happy to be able to cater to the needs of these organizations through several training modules we have created including those recently added to CISSP training after the April 15 exam content update.
